A pity party that is. Don't worry, it will be short & sweet. I don't wallow in the negative too long. Life is too short or too long, depending how you look at it, to do that.
Our family business is finally closed. We will close & lock the door on July 31, 2010 marking the end of 35 years in business. Who knew the closing of a corporation was such a long, tedious process. My next career should be an Attorney specializing in business closures! They certainly find reasons to trump up the fees & drag things on!
Sad as that is I'm afraid that isn't the worst. I was prepared for losing my job. I was NOT however prepared for Doug losing his employment. His last day of work is this Friday.
His company had a meeting Monday morning and they were told in 2 to 3 weeks they will no longer have jobs. They ran out of work sooner than expected and Doug will be done in two days instead of two weeks.
He is so upset. My heart aches for him ~ I wish I could make him feel better but there isn't anything I can do or say.
He's been with the company 15 years and they were like a family. I know how he feels and it hurts. He's shocked, they all are and I can say in all honesty they were blindsided and had no clue this was coming. My heart goes out to the other guys too, they have children to consider.
So...I was moving on to a new chapter in life and now it looks like we'll be moving on to that chapter together. The future is unknown and I have no idea what's waiting for us. We're mulling over several ideas.
Other than that it is a horrendous summer! It's been sweltering, heat wave after heat wave and it seems no long term relief is in sight.
The animals are all doing well and so far everyone has been surviving the heat. We do what we can to keep them comfortable.
That's all folks...I wish you all peace & happiness. I am done complaining and the party is over!

I am SO sorry! That was quite a hit! I know it's no consolation to know that you guys aren't the only ones going through this right now, but it's true. I'm glad everyone is healthy and that you've got the closing behind you. I hope that you have some options available that you're comfortable with, and that Doug will find something soon.
ReplyDeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear all the bad news. You and Doug and of course all the animals will be in my thoughts and prayers *Big Hugs*
keep your chin up and think positive, one door closes and another one opens
ReplyDeleteHope something wonderful is just around the corner for you both. Just so hard that it all happened so close together.
ReplyDeleteOH! Dear Lisa, sorry to read of this. It's a terrible feeling wondering if your work is safe. The Rooster himself has just missed being made redundant twice now in his employment.Luckily he has been kept on but it is such a worry for lots in todays recession.I wish you both everything you wish for yourselves.Try to keep your chin up prayers for you always. As Garnett says As one door closes another one opens.Take Care God Bless Kath xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear it's even worse than you thought, Lisa - Doug losing his job in a matter of days rather than weeks. I wish you both well in rebuilding your economic future.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking from many, many years of experience I would say when I think back there were several times changes were forced upon me...now i can say it was for the best and my life turned out better. However, it is almost impossible to feel that way when you are in the midst of the changes and the uncertainty. both lisa and doug are strong, talented people with excellent work ethics..the future will hold good things i am sure. carole (lisa's mum)
ReplyDeleteSometimes a good cry is cleansing too. All of this must seem otherworldly. I am so sorry.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of stubborn independence & I see your coming out on top. ~Mary
Dear Lisa, there is a saying that it never rains but it pours...and that sure is true for you and Doug...but then there is the other saying Sunshine is just around the corner.. and that for sure will be true for you and Doug as well....just hang on in there. Take a couple quick drinks and look forward..

I'm sure this is just the result of something new and wonderful to happen.... Always special thoughts... :)
ReplyDeleteDear Lisa
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read about the loss of Doug's job.
I hope he soon picks himself up and finds another one soon.
I went through that for forty eight hours once and I had been in my job 24 years. It is not pleasant being kept in the dark until the last minute.
Your mind just races and when you have been in a job for so long it does become like loosing your family.
I'm sorry too to read about the finality of your family business. It has been long drawn out and obviously fattened up some lawyers wallets.
They are never the losers whatever the task. Are they?
I wish you all well for the future. Something will be waiting round the corner for you all. You may not think so now but it will come.
Listen to Gypsy Rose Jeanie..lol
Keeping you all in my prayers for something good to happen soon.
Hugs
Jeanie
Lisa, thank you for inviting me to your pity party. As one who has been unexpectedly sent out the door once or twice I sympathize with you and Doug. The biggest problem is fear. Don't be afraid. Clear heads can better see the future.

I'm sorry to hear about Dougs job loss to Lisa, it never rains but it pours. I do hope you'll both be able to find something soon. Jeannette xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a shock for you all. Well, my friend, they say that when you hit bottom the only way is up!!! Be positive, you never know how things will turn out, sometimes they are for the better. Sending out good vibes for you all.
ReplyDeleteMy heart hurts for you and Doug. Together, you can get through anything. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteThat really sucks! I'm sorry he's losing his job as well. Now might be a good time to plan a trip or something. Spend some quality time together before he finds another job. Keeping you and your family in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI hate to hear about this. It has been so rough employment-wise. I hope you are both able to find something. It took my hubby about 18 months.
